The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (Minister Chung Hwang-keun, MAFRA) released a casebook “Study in rural areas, making tomorrow’s dream come true” containing students’ study experiences of the 2022 Rural Study Program . The publication introduces hands-on experiences of students and graduates who participated in various Rural Study Programs, and their parents who sent their children for study in rural areas. Among them are Kim Min-gyu, an elementary school student, who liked studying in the countryside more than staying at home; Cha Min-gun, a college student who said that his one-year study experience in rural areas made a difference in life; Lee Chang-hyun, a middle-school student, told by his mother Yoon Hee-jung, who said his life matured through various Rural Study Programs. Director General Lee Sang-man of Rural Policy Bureau of MAFRA said, “The Rural Study Program nurtures small schools in rural areas, makes a lively rural village with children’s laughter, and enrich life for children,” stressing that “We will keep our efforts to promote rural study programs and let more students experience them in cooperation with local governments.” MAFRA started a project to support operation cost for Rural Study Centers in 2010 together with local governments, providing a total of KRW 1.5 billion annually to 28 centers across the country in 2022.
