S. Korea and Ireland Inked LoI on Cooperation
for Transition to Sustainable Farming Systems
Sejong, 10 September 2024 — On 6 September, H.E. PARK Beomsu, Vice
Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of the Republic of Korea, and
H.E. Charlie McConalogue, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine of the
Republic of Ireland, met together in Seoul and discussed ways for bilateral cooperation
in the agriculture sector, including the areas of smart farming and eco-friendly
farming practices. The two sides signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) on collaboration
in the area of sustainable farming systems.
The
Republic of Korea and the Republic of Ireland have been in solidarity in terms
of pursuing a transition to sustainable farming systems by presenting their
greenhouse gas emissions targets and increasing investments in agricultural
innovation.
Both
sides will discuss the details on way for bilateral cooperation and develop the
LoI into the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by taking advantage of their own
strengths such as South Korea’s ICT-based smart farming and Ireland’s
environment-conscious agricultural practices.
Vice
Minister Park Beomsu said: “Many South Korean companies are gaining a
competitive edge in a global market by developing and enhancing smart-farming
technologies. I expect that the LoI signing will lead to opportunities for
South Korea to share its smart farming cases with Ireland.”
Vice
Minister Park and Minister McConalogue also discussed other agricultural
matters, including expansion of trade of agricultural and food products.
