Established the Korea Pavilion to showcase Korean-style outdoor garden and smart agriculture technologies at the International Horticulture Expo 2023 Doha, the first-ever A1-class horticultural expo in the Middle East, at the invitation of Qatar.
Minister Chung Hwang-keun of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) attended the opening ceremony of the International Horticulture Expo 2023 Doha, Qatar, with the Korea Pavilion established at the event on October 24, aiming to proactively support the entry of exporters in the smart agriculture industry into the emerging markets in the Middle East.
The event is the first-ever Bureau International Expositions (BIE)-approved A1-class horticultural expo held in the Middle East, with the participation of over 80 countries. Reflecting the host country's hopes of showcasing Korea's outstanding smart agriculture technology, the Korea Pavilion was established with a space of approximately 1,290 square meters, featuring a Korean-style outdoor garden and a smart agriculture exhibition hall.
The Korean-style outdoor garden reinterprets our traditional gardens with a modern touch, respecting and cherishing nature. It offers a veranda to appreciate Korea's mountain and water scenery, with mystical elements added by cloud and mist enveloping the scenery. The smart agriculture exhibition hall explains the development process of smart agriculture in Korea, while also boasting advanced technologies, including vertical farms, semi-closed glass greenhouses from leading Korean export companies, crop observation robots, along with introduction to the Smart Farm Innovation Valley.
Minister Chung Hwang-keun remarked, "Korea, which experienced food shortages just half a century ago, has made significant progress in the development of smart agriculture systems integrating information and communication technology (ICT) across all stages of agriculture, from production to processing and distribution." He expressed his hope, stating, "We hope that Korea's smart agriculture technology will take root in the desert as well."
