S. Korean Veterinary Pharmaceutical Industry Expands into Southeast Asian Markets

Sejong, 25 July 2024 — At the Indo Livestock Expo & Forum 2024 held in the Indonesian capital Jakarta from 17 to 19 July, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of the Republic of Korea (MAFRA) opened the South Korean booths1) to showcase South Korean veterinary medicines and pave the way for more Southeast Asian markets.

The MAFRA has been providing support for Korean veterinary pharmaceutical companies to participate in international trade fairs every year. The Indo Livestock Expo & Forum is one of the largest expositions for the livestock industry held in Indonesia, with the number of participants from around the world reaching approximately more than 10,000. This exposition concurred with Indonesia’s other expositions for feed, dairy farming, and fisheries—the Indofeed Expo & Forum, the Indo Dairy Expo & Forum, and the Indo Fisheries Expo & Forum—as well as seminars and business conferences. These events provided an opportunity for participants to exchange information with experts from various fields and learn about the latest trends of the livestock industry.

With Muslims accounting for 87% of the population of Indonesia, boasting the world’s fourth largest population, the nation is a big market for chicken meat. Also, the Indonesian livestock industry is forecast to continue to grow in the years ahead. With all these taken into account, exports of Korean veterinary medicines to Indonesia are expected to grow as well.

Director-General LEE Sang-man of the MAFRA’s Agri-Food Innovation Policy Bureau said: “The ministry will continue to provide support for Korean veterinary pharmaceutical companies in their sales and promotional efforts overseas, including their participation in international trade fairs. By doing so, we will make efforts to help them to showcase the excellent quality of their products, advance the exchange of information and cooperation with international partners, and ultimately expand their exports.”
