Minister Chung Hwang-keun of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs will visit Malaysia and Indonesia from May 11 (Thur.) to 16 (Tue.) to discuss ways of future-oriented agricultural cooperation in detail between Korea and the two countries while visiting various sites to boost exports of K-Food in Southeast Asia. 
 
Malaysia and Indonesia play an essential role within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). In particular, this year marks the 40th Anniversary of Look East Policy between Korea and Malaysia and the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Indonesia. As a result, Minister Chung Hwang-keun will have fruitful discussions with Ministers and important business leaders of the two countries in order to take a step forward in the agri-food sectors and to further increase the presence of Korean agri-food and related companies in both countries. 
 * Look East Policy: In the 1980s, Former Prime Minister Mahathir of Malaysia introduced the Look East Policy to select Japan and Korea as role models to promote economic development
 
In Malaysia, Minister Chung Hwang-keun will meet Minister YB Datuk Seri Haji Mohamad Bin Sabu of Agriculture and Food Security of Malaysia and exchange the first joint declaration between agricultural ministers of Korea and Malaysia, laying the foundation for enhanced agri-food cooperation in food security, smart farm, exchange of halal food, etc. In addition, activities as "K-food export promoter" will be actively implemented including the signing of the first official export contract for Hanwoo meat and the agreement between the largest Korean agri-food distributor (KMT) in Malaysia and Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT). 

In Indonesia, Minister Chung Hwang-keun will meet Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo of Agriculture to discuss how to strengthen cooperation in the fields where Korean companies have a high demand including smart farm and agricultural machinery, etc. and in stabilizing the supply chain of palm oil, etc. by revising the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on agricultural cooperation between Korea and Indonesia. Also, the Minister will meet Korean agri-food companies which are interested in exploring the Indonesian market and corporations already operating in Indonesia to exchange ideas of policy support tools in detail.  
 
Minister Chung Hwang-keun said, "Malaysia and Indonesia are major exporters of raw materials such as timber and palm oil. As a result, it is highly necessary to establish cooperative relationships with them for stable supply chain, and there is considerable space for Korean exports of agri-food products including Hanwoo, fruits, Kimchi, etc. to grow there, along with Hallyu, or the popularity of the culture of the Republic of Korea. Taking this opportunity, Korea will strengthen agricultural cooperation channels with both countries and increase agricultural exports by promoting good qualities of K-Food."
